Results published for practice-changing thyroid cancer trial

Findings from a CTC trial have been published in The Lancet, indicating that patients with thyroid cancer could now be spared a harsh course of treatment and spend more time with loved ones as a result. 

The Iodine or Not (IoN) clinical trial, funded by Cancer Research UK, sought to determine whether patients with low-risk thyroid cancer could safely forego radioactive iodine treatment following surgery to remove the thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that produces hormones to help regulate metabolism and energy levels.
